NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has issued termination notices to 125 employees working in its health department on the grounds of seeking employment through forged documents. In addition, an MCD upper division clerk U. C. Sharma who facilitated the appointments has been suspended.

According to the civic body, 225 employees had been appointed in the department in the year 2000. However, in 2006 an audit department investigation revealed that these appointments were illegal as they had been done on the basis of forged documents. With the approval of the then Municipal Commissioner these employees were handed out termination notices by the civic body.

However, of the 225 employees, 125 then approached the Delhi High Court following which the civic body was asked to reinstate these employees on the grounds that they had been denied a chance of a fair hearing.

As per the court directions, the MCD re-instated these employees and served them a show-cause notice asking them to produce the original documents, failing which the civic body has finally issued them a notice for termination of their services. Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain, who looked into the issue, recommended the action.
