When they tried to dissuade the accused from relieving himself at their doorstep

A teenaged girl was shot dead and her mother injured allegedly by one of their neighbours at Hazrat Nizamuddin here on Wednesday when the mother-daughter duo tried to dissuade him from relieving himself at their doorstep.

Seventeen-year-old Yusra and her mother Sadmani were laying the table for dinner at their house in Basti Nizamuddin near Imam Bara around 9-30 p.m. when they spotted the accused, whose name has been withheld by the police, loitering around. Soon, the accused came to their doorstep accompanied by a friend and started urinating. When the mother-daughter duo objected to it an altercation broke out. Soon, the accused whipped out a pistol and allegedly opened fire at the two. Yusra, who sustained two shots, died on the spot. Her mother has been admitted to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences with a bullet injury.

“Sadmani is out of danger. The accused is absconding and efforts are being made to trace him,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (South-East) Ajay Chaudhary, ruling out any previous enmity between the two neighbours.

The accused would stay on rent on the second floor of the same building where the victims’ family stays.

Sadmani’s husband Aslam, who is a caretaker of a banquet hall, and her teenaged son were not present at the time of incident.

The accused had come out of jail a month back after serving four years in prison in an attempt to murder case, a neighbour said. His mother works as a domestic help.
