School authorities refuse to cooperate

NEW DELHI: A teacher of a primary school here has been arrested in Uttam Nagar here for allegedly making a seven-year-old girl strip in front of her classmates for not doing the homework.

According to the police, 19-year-old Neha, a teacher with Star Shine Public School in the Mohan Garden area, made an upper kindergarten girl student stand on the desk and strip to her inner wear for not completing the homework.

The teacher also allegedly asked the girl’s classmates to clap while the punishment was being meted out.

On reaching home, the girl narrated the incident to her parents. Her brother went to the school in the morning but found that the school authorities were not very forthcoming on the matter. He then reported the matter to the police and the teacher was arrested under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and Juvenile Justice Act.

The incident comes close on the heels of a heated controversy in the Capital over an unauthorised medical examination of children by a team of doctors at a reputed public school.
