NEW DELHI: A tea vendor has been awarded Rs.10,000 in cash and a commendation roll by the Delhi police for helping thwart a robbery attempt outside a bank this past month.

Vinod Kumar, who is enrolled under the “eyes and ears” scheme of the police, noticed three suspicious-looking persons loitering outside the Preet Vihar branch of Punjab National Bank on August 28. The three were carrying arms.

Vinod immediately alerted beat constable Nem Pal who caught the three with the help of the beat staff. During interrogation, they purportedly told the police that they had assembled outside the bank to commit robbery.
