Driven on to the backfoot by major criticism from various quarters, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday assured to lead a delegation of MPs from Punjab to the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, to plead the case of a group of farmers from the Kutch region facing displacement.

Mr Badal who is also the president of the Akali Dal, which shares power with the BJP and is a part of the NDA, met a group of farmers from Gujarat at his Delhi residence, where he also announced that the Punjab government would also bear full cost of their legal battle in the Supreme Court.

A large number of farmers of Punjabi origin, who were settled in the Kutch area of Gujarat are currently involved in litigation to escape eviction from their lands at the hands of the government, which has frozen their land accounts after invoking the provisions various tenancy and agriculture land acts.
