An Allahabad University student has allegedly threatened his classmate with “delhi gang-rape-like consequences” after she rejected his advances. The threats were issued through an email, said Professor Rajul Mathur, a faculty member, adding that the “infatuated” boy harassed the girl on social networking sites.

However, there were no reports of any physical approach. The girl had approached the University's Women Advisory Board with a complaint. While the authorities are mulling over punishing the boy, most likely through suspension, they said he would get a chance to redeem himself. The identities of the students have not been disclosed. Meanwhile, a Mahila Jan Sansad, initiated by the Allahabad University and comprising women of all walks of life, to protest against atrocities on women was held at the Chandra Shekhar Azad Park here on Saturday. The proposals adopted would be sent to the Centre, State governments and the Justice Verma Commission, Ranjana Kakkar, chairman of the University's Women Advisory Board, said in an email.
