The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has proposed a steep hike in parking charges in its budget proposals for the next financial year.

Four-wheelers which pay Rs.10 per hour and Rs.20 for over 10 hours will now be forced to shell out Rs.10 for 30 minutes, Rs.20 for one hour, and Rs.50 for one to three hours of parking. After three hours, Rs.20 will be levied per additional hour.

The present monthly parking rate of Rs.500 is being hiked to a proposed rate of Rs.1,500. Two-wheelers will have to pay half of the four-wheeler rates.

Tempo vans, buses and trucks will have to pay double of what the four-wheelers pay. Four wheelers vehicles will be charged 50 per cent extra rates during peak hours between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., the EDMC has proposed in its budget.
