Students from St. Stephen’s College whose protest against the “gender discriminatory curfew” in their hostels was effectively silenced have found support from the nearby Ramjas College.

“The statements issued by the students of St. Stephen’s College protesting a series of undemocratic, discriminatory, paternalist and infantilising practices that govern the lives of women residents of the college have come as gusts of fresh air in a university where questioning the unfair exercise of authority has become a dangerous exercise. ‘We don’t want to be locked up’, they said. There could not have been a clearer, more damning indictment by women hostellers of the ways in which their rights and liberties as citizens of this country are subverted every day by college authorities,” said a statement issued by Ramjas College’s Gender Forum and students’ union.
