A Special Mining Vigilance Force will be constituted in the State in the wake of rampant illegal mining, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said here on Wednesday.

Mr. Bahuguna said: “Seven places, including Vikas Nagar, Haldwani, Haridwar, Kotdwar, and Kashipur, have been marked for the Vigilance Force to watch over the actions of the sand mafia.”

Vigilance cameras will be set up to oversee the mining activities at various mining sites throughout the State. Though mining will go on at all the permitted areas, this team will check that the same is done as per the specified rules and within stated limits.

The Special Mining Vigilance Force will be headed by the Deputy Inspector General Sanjay Gunjiyal.
