The Samajwadi Party on Monday declared its second list of candidates for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The list has nine names, including that of Shyama Charan Gupta who replaces the sitting Banda MP, R.K. Singh Patel. Mr. Patel’s name had been included in the first list of 55 candidates released last week by the party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav.

No reasons have been given for the axe falling on Mr. Patel who was earlier in the Bahujan Samaj Party.

The nine candidates are Shahid Manzoor from Meerut; Ravi Gautam (Bulandshahr-Reserved); Kajal Sharma (Aligarh); Mahendra Verma (Sitapur); Dharmraj Patel (Phulpur); Kunwar Akhilesh Singh (Maharajganj); Balram Yadav (Azamgarh); Om Prakash Singh (Ghazipur); and Shyama Charan Gupta in place of R.K. Singh Patel (Banda).

Mr. Manzoor and Mr. Balram Yadav are Ministers in the Akhilesh Yadav Government and Om Prakash Singh is the party’s State general secretary. Mr. Dharmraj Patel, who has been fielded from Phulpur, is a former MP who joined the Samajwadi Party a few days ago.
