NEW DELHI: The Delhi police on Saturday tried to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the ghastly murder of Headlines Today journalist Soumya Viswanathan who was found shot dead in her car at Vasant Kunj here in the early hours of this past Tuesday.

The chain of events leading to her mysterious death were recreated around the time 25-year-old Soumya had left her office at Jhandewalan in her Maruti Zen car for her Vasant Kunj C-Block home. The police sought to find out which way she took and around what time she would have reached Nelson Mandela Marg where she was shot dead on that fateful night.

The exercise is expected to help the police fix the probable timing of her murder.

In the dead of night, the police personnel had also put up a picket on Nelson Mandela Marg where they stopped all passing vehicles at that late hour to enquire if the occupants of any of them had happened to pass by the same spot on the fateful night.

In doing so, the police were hoping that they might come across some crucial eyewitnesses. In another development, two more witnesses have come forward claiming that they were passing by Nelson Mandela Marg that night when they saw Soumya’s car that had rammed into the central verge of the road. One of them told police that he had seen two men standing near the car.

“We verified the facts and found that the two were the same persons who informed us about the incident,” said a police officer, adding that both the witnesses narrated post-murder happenings.

The other witness said he had seen some policemen at the spot. Hoping to come across an eyewitness to the murder, the police are contacting local residents now.

“We are trying to identify the motive behind the murder, which would help us zero in on the culprit. It is a time-taking process and so far we have not come across any eyewitness of the murder,” said the police officer, adding that all angles including the possibility of road rage, mistaken identity, murder by known person and also robbery-gone-wrong were being investigated.
