A Delhi Police Sub-Inspector allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver in Chanakyapuri area on Tuesday morning, the police said on Wednesday.

According to police, the deceased, identified as 57-year-old Kaptan Singh, was posted with the Security Lines at the diplomatic enclave for the last two years. However, no suicide note was recovered from the spot.

“The incident took place at around 6-30 am when Singh shot himself in the premises of the Security Lines while he was on duty,” said police.

Hearing the gun shot, one of Singh’s colleagues rushed towards the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood. Singh was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. His body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary for conducting post-mortem, said police.

“So far, investigations have revealed that Singh was depressed over some personal issues but the exact reason is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from the spot. Further investigations are underway,” said police.
