Concerned over growing cases of crime against women in the Capital, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has asked Delhi Police to launch a special drive for recruiting more female police personnel besides ensuring that at least 10 per cent of the personnel deployed at police stations with a history of more cases of crime against women are female.

Special drive

“I have directed Delhi Police to launch a special drive for recruiting women...We will hire more women in Delhi Police. There will be more female constables and officers in each police station, which will instil confidence in women to report crimes against them,” Mr. Shinde said.

  • ‘At least 10% staff in stations with history of more cases of crime against women is female’

  • Ratio of men-women personnel in Delhi is dismal — out of 82,000 personnel, 5,200 are women
