In a day of utter confusion within and outside the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha on Monday, opposition Bharatiya Janata Party members entered the well of the House and raised anti-government slogans seeking a better deal for the unemployed, poor and the womenfolk. Outside the Assembly, the police brutally lathi-charged Shiksha Mitras, seeking a hike in their honorariums from Rs 10,000 to Rs 22,000.
Several Shiksha Mitras, including women, were seriously injured and taken to hospital. A few policemen also suffered injuries.
Perturbed by the violent turn of events outside the Vidhan Sabha, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna was holding talks with the agitationists till reports last came in.
Several women Shiksha Mitras sought the dismissal of the cops and the Senior Superintendent of Police for having brutally lathi-charged them without any provocation.
Malti from Naini Tal described the lathi-charge as something they had never expected in Uttarakhand.
