NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday criticised the Delhi Government for price rise, Metro accidents and its approach towards unauthorised colonies.

The party legislators, who met under the leadership of Vijay Kumar Malhotra, held the Sheila Dikshit Government responsible for the sharp increase in the prices of cereals, sugar, vegetables, flour and rice. Prof. Malhotra charged that the Food and Civil Supplies Department of Delhi Government has virtually stopped working. “Delhiites are getting neither ration cards nor subsidised ration. The Government is totally ineffective in curbing the price rise. There is a fear of further rise and it will become difficult for common people to live in Delhi,” he added.

The senior BJP leader alleged that before the Assembly elections Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had misled lakhs of people living in unauthorised colonies by giving them provisional certificates that purportedly showed the Government’s intention to regularize these colonies.

He said several tenders were also called for development works in these colonies. But after winning the third consecutive election, the Congress Government in Delhi stopped all the development works in these colonies. “In the last fortnight, she (Chief Minister) convened meetings of senior officers for development works in unauthorised colonies but did not release even a single penny for development works in these colonies,” Prof. Malhotra alleged.
