Thieves allegedly struck in over half-a-dozen garments shops at Gandhi Nagar here on Sunday and made off with several thousand rupees in cash.

According to the police, the thieves entered the shops through an opening in the terrace in the early hours and made off with money kept at the cash counters.

“So far nine shopkeepers have come to us complaining about the theft. The thieves probably gained entry from the terrace as the locks on the shutter were found intact. The theft came to light when the shopkeepers opened their shops in the morning,” said a senior police officer.
