Just 33 properties sealed on Thursday
NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Thursday targeted just 33 shops and offices in three zones, mainly covering non-notified roads in South Delhi, during its ongoing sealing drive.
However, it did not target traders falling in 2,183 recently-notified roads, who had earlier filed affidavits, after the Supreme Court on Wednesday asked them to give fresh undertakings that they had stopped misuse of their residential premises.
The drive on Thursday remained a low-key affair as only 10 units were sealed on Ring Road near Lajpat Nagar-IV, Nehru Nagar and Ashram in the Central zone, while 18 units were sealed in Gautam Nagar and Gujjar Dairy areas in South zone. So far these two zones have seen maximum number of properties getting targeted since the drive resumed on November 8.
Similarly, some sealing action took place in West zone where just five units were targeted at Raja Garden, Hastsal and Keshavpur Marg for misuse. There was some tension at Keshav Marg in Rajouri Garden when traders tried to disrupt sealing drive.
However, police personnel accompanying the sealing squad immediately took control o the situation and detained more than 30 traders.
The MCD also sealed one property in Qutub Institutional Area in South Delhi. A large part of the building was given on rent against the Delhi Development Authority norms. So far, the MCD squads have sealed 833 units across the city.
