Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J.P. Agarwal on Wednesday said Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna has told him that the sealing and demolition drive on guest houses and trade premises has been stopped till the time the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will prepare the redevelopment plans for the Special Areas, Karol Bagh, Paharganj and Old Delhi.

L-G's decision

Mr. Agarwal, who had led a delegation of traders to the Lieutenant-Governor on September 17 to demand an immediate stoppage to the action being carried out by MCD, said the decision taken by the Lieutenant-Governor would save guest house owners and traders from ruin.

The Congress leader said the MCD had started sealing establishments and guest houses in Karol Bagh that had been operating for over 20 years. He said as the Karol Bagh Special Area Redevelopment Plan was yet to the made, it was essential that the status quo be maintained.

During the meeting with the Lieutenant-Governor, the delegation had also urged him to intervene as this was the festival season and the sealing and demolition exercise of MCD was impacting the businesses of many.
