A young scientist going to his hometown in Uttarakhand was allegedly drugged and robbed of his belongings and documents in Delhi on Tuesday.

Vikas Arya (24) boarded an auto-rickshaw from outside Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station on Tuesday evening along with a passenger and was found unconscious by a safai karamchari near Raj Ghat on Wednesday. His laptop, gold chain, cash and a bag containing some documents and contact details of scientists are missing.

Recalling the sequence of events, Vikas's friend Praveen Tyagi said: “On coming out of the railway station, Vikas was making enquires for a conveyance to the ISBT Kashmere Gate as he had to board a bus to Roorkee when a stranger came to him offering to share an auto-rickshaw. The stranger told Vikas that he was new to Delhi and was going to Roorkee. At this, Vikas agreed and the two got into an auto-rickshaw. On the way, the fellow passenger got down to get a change for Rs.500 note. He also brought along two sealed bottles of aerated drinks and offered them to Vikas and the driver.”

A few minutes after taking the beverage, Vikas fell unconscious. “On Wednesday morning, a safai karamchari discovered Vikas lying near Raj Ghat and brought him to his senses. Vikas provided him the contact number of a friend who in turn informed me. We then took him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.”
