Hailing the Centre’s Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowships for higher education of students with disabilities for higher education in universities leading to the award of M.Phil. and Ph.D. as a “path-breaking initiative”, the Society for Disability & Rehabilitation Studies has described it as one of the most significant measures taken by way of facilitating higher education for students with disabilities.

G. N. Karna, former chairman of the Working Group on Disability for the Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-12), said that one of the major recommendations of the groupwas to extend the fellowship’s ambit.
