A seven-member delegation of master craftsmen from Russia was in the Capital on Thursday to conduct a workshop at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture which saw several students and Indian craftsmen participate. “The artists came from different parts of Russia including Moscow and Kaluga region and we had a craftsman from Belarus as well,” said RCSC Deputy Director (Culture and Information) Anastasia Khokhlova about the day-long workshop.

Among the various art forms were hand painted and exquisitely designed wooden toys, wood carvings, and Khokhlova dolls. Two professional musicians who are national artists were part of the delegation. “The idea was to bring together craftsperson from different parts of Russia and understand the natural environment from which these art forms originate,” said Ms. Khokhlova.

Students from four Delhi schools, art students from the Delhi College of Arts and several Indian craftsmen apart from Russian studies students from the Jawaharlal Nehru University participated in the workshop. “The initiative was organised to coincide with the 20{+t}{+h}anniversary of the adoption of the constitution of the Russian Federation,” she added.

The delegation had earlier in the week held a workshop at the Delhi Public School, Mathura Road and had toured Kerala and Sri Lanka.
