Complaint of corruption in the sealing process

  • Question mark over appointment of five new Deputy Commissioners
  • MCD Commissioner reluctant to review the promotion orders

NEW DELHI: With the process of identification of roads and areas under mixed land and commercial use categories coming under a cloud, the role of senior officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in identifying these roads under the September 15 notification and subsequently approving them has come under scrutiny.

The Delhi Government's Vigilance Wing has got a complaint of corruption and wrongdoing in the process. According to highly placed sources, five recently promoted Deputy Commissioners of the MCD have come under scrutiny and so has the role of MCD Commissioner Ashok Nigam in giving these officials promotions and scales to which they purportedly are not entitled under the rules. Even the Appointments Committee of the Corporation is understood to have refused to ratify the appointment of five new Deputy Commissioners in the Corporation, putting a question mark over the whole process of their elevation.

It is learnt that in view of the MCD Commissioner's reluctance to review the situation and the promotion orders, the matter has been taken up at a high level and is under consideration of the Vigilance Wing of the Delhi Government.

The five Deputy Commissioners had been actively associated with the exercise of identifying the 2,200-odd roads and areas for mixed land and commercial use.

It is learnt that the MCD House has also not ratified their appointments.
