Leading telecom service provider Reliance Communications (RCOM) on Thursday announced the launch of 3G services across Punjab. The company claimed to have launched the services in a record time of around 100 days after receiving the 3G spectrum.

According to a company spokesperson, with the rollout now RCOM would offer 3G services to customers in the corporation cities of Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Bathinda in the initial phase.

At a function organised at Jalandhar, Circle Head of Wireless Business section for Reliance Communications in Punjab, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, said that the launch of Reliance 3G was an integral part of the company's “Vision 2015” of creating a “Wirefree Punjab” built upon the “Affordable 3G for All” platform. “Reliance 3G places us in a unique position with our suite of offerings covering 3G, CDMA, GSM and mobile broadband data services on the wireless platform”, he said. RCOM would launch its 3G services across all 13 telecom circles, where it holds licenses, by end of fiscal 2010-11, he said, adding that the company had targeted a national footprint of 3G services through associations with other like-minded, quality 3G licensees in the balance nine telecom circles during the course of next year. Last month it had launched 3G services in Chandigarh, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Blanket coverage

Mr. Chakraborty informed a gathering that the Reliance 3G network had been designed to offer blanket coverage in every town, with all its sites connected through IP backhaul to provide maximum download speeds and minimum latency.

The company's 3G network had the capacity to offer peak speeds of 28 Mbps.
