Construction work for the privately owned Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) along National Highway - 8 began on Wednesday.

“The launching of the girders along NH-8 began on Wednesday. The first girder for the line was launched on August 9,” said an RMGL spokesperson.

A total of 284 girders will be launched for completion of the line using the single segment approach, wherein a single girder segment will be placed directly between two pillars. The technique “saves time, cuts down transportation time, provides for better curing and strengthening,” added the spokesperson.

Metro systems also use a multi-segment approach which takes around four to five days for transportation and launching. The single segment approach takes 2 to 4 hours for the girder segment to be placed between the pillars.

“The girders will be moved at night and launched in the morning to cause minimum traffic disruption,” he said.
