The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) grilled the former U.P. minister and Kunda MLA, Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, on Wednesday in connection with his alleged involvement in the murder of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zia-ul- Haque. The DSP was killed on the night of March 2 in Balipur village of Pratapgarh district. His murder was preceded by the killing of Balipur gram pradhan Nanhe Yadav and Mr. Yadav’s brother, Suresh.
Mr. Singh has been charged with criminal conspiracy by the DSP’s wife, Parveen Azad. After his name figured in the case, he quit the State cabinet on March 3 at the behest of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Mr. Singh was summoned by the CBI at the investigating agency’s camp office in Kunda town hall on Wednesday. He was asked to be present for questioning at 10 a.m., but the questioning started at around 11 a.m. as he arrived late.
Mr. Singh was accompanied by the former MLC and his relative, Akshay Pratap Singh. Apart from the former Minister, the chairman of Kunda Nagar Panchayat Gulshan Yadav, Raja Bhaiya’s representative in Kunda Hariom Shankar Srivastava and a local, Nanhe Singh, were questioned. While Mr. Srivastava was allowed to go, the interrogation of others continued till late in the night.
