NEW DELHI: Raghu Menon, Special Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Civil Aviation Ministry, has been appointed Chairman and Managing Director of Air India.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the name of Mr. Menon, a 1974 batch IAS officer of Nagaland cadre, after a keen race for the top job in the National Aviation Company of India Limited , which runs the merged national carrier. There were 51 aspirants for the post of which seven were shortlisted and interviewed by the Public Enterprises Selection Board.
Mr. Menon, who was appointed Joint Secretary in the Civil Aviation Ministry in October 2002, will take over on April 1, 2008 from V. Thulasidas, a Tripura cadre IAS officer who retires on March 31.
The post of CMD of NACIL, which is the holding company of Air India, is on a par with the rank of Additional Secretary in the Union government.
