NEW DELHI: An executive engineer and a cashier with the Public Works Department have been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi Government for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.8,000 from a contractor to clear his bills. The contractor, Gulshan, lodged a complaint with the ACB alleging that EE Jagdeep Singh, Auditor Pramod and Cashier Kanhaiya Lal of the maintenance wing of the PWD were demanding money for clearance of his pending bills.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB advised the contractor to carry out a sting operation exposing the involvement of the three accused. Subsequently a case was registered and two of the accused, Jagdeep and Kanhaiya Lal, were arrested. A hunt has been launched for the third accused.
