Union Minister and Congress MP from Patiala Preneet Kaur on Thursday charged the Akali-BJP Government in Punjab with giving step-motherly treatment to the district.
Interacting with media persons after attending a function organised to mark the 320th birthday of Baba Ala Singh, founder of Patiala city, Ms. Preneet Kaur alleged that the Punjab Government had been stalling every project of Patiala district, whether it was restoration work of Qila Mubarak or providing basic amenities to the people.
“Moreover, in the recent past, the Punjab Government has not recommended any project related to Patiala for sanctioning of grants from the Centre,” she claimed.
Ms. Kaur said that she had written many letters to Punjab Government for forwarding the proposals to release special grants from the Centre, “but there has been a cold response from the government”.
She said that the Centre is ready to give more projects to the State but the government was not coming forward with the proposals.
“Take the case of Quila Mubarak, built in 1763 by Baba Ala Singh, the founder of the Patiala dynasty. It was declared a protected site by the State Government but the dilapidated condition of the Quila tells its own story,” she said.
She said that the previous Congress Government introduced the heritage festivals of Amritsar, Kapurthala and Patiala but the government has stopped it for Patiala even as it continues in the other two cities. - PTI
