“Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad should be banned”

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar here on Friday protesting against continuing attacks on the Christian community by Sangh Parivar outfits.

Addressing the protesters, Delhi CPI (M-L) Liberation secretary Sanjay Sharma said the violence in Orissa and Karnataka was the outcome of inaction against the culprits responsible for the assaults on Christians last December in Kandhamal district of Orissa.

Stating that a large number of Christians had lost their homes and were subjected to public humiliation, Mr. Sharma said Christian institutions had also been the targets of violence. “It is not new for the Sangh Parivar to invoke conversion to justify violence against Christians,” he added.

“Compensation should be ensured for all those who have lost family members, property or suffered injuries in the attacks perpetrated on the Christian community. Immediate steps must be taken to reconstruct the demolished churches and other Christian institutions,” said Central Committee member Kavita Krishnan.

An effigy of the Orissa and Karnataka Governments was burnt.

In a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil, the protesters appealed to her to ensure a stop to the violence targeting the Christian community and also demanded that “Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad involved in the violence be banned”.
