NEW DELHI: A sessions court here has acquitted an 80-year-old priest who had been sentenced to six-month imprisonment by a lower court for allegedly having unnatural sex with a seven-year-old boy.

The court said the boy had given the testimony at the behest of another man and there was no material evidence on record to prove that the priest had indulged in the alleged act.

In an order passed earlier this week, Additional Sessions Judge Narinder Kumar acquitted Sumeri Baba who was accused of sodomising a seven-year-old child a few years ago.

On February 2 this year, Sumeri Baba was convicted and sentenced to a prison term of six months in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate which had found him guilty. Sumeri Baba had then filed an appeal in the sessions court challenging his conviction.
