Several areas falling in the New Delhi Municipal Council area witnessed a power supply breakdown on Thursday after the transformer at gas-turbine station tripped leading to power-cuts affecting offices and residential areas alike.

According to Delhi Transco Limited, the fault occurred at 3 p.m. and supply was restored to normal by 7:15 p.m. The areas affected due to the power cut included Lodhi Estate, Janpath, Connaught Place, Parliament Street, Moti Bagh, Prithviraj Road, Teen Murti Lane and Akbar Road.

An NDMC official said: “Power supply to all our four feeder cables supplying power from the GT Station to various NDMC areas was cut off owing to a technical problem at the source. The fault could have been weather related and worsened due to the digging work being carried out in the area. Though we had alternate power supply lines they cannot take load beyond a certain point.”

“Some residential areas were affected in and around CP. Offices were not affected much as most have generator back up and they close around evening time anyway lightening the power load,” he added.

A similar lapse had occurred at the GT Station in May also leading to power cut in the NDMC areas.
