Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly V.K. Malhotra on Thursday said following the filing of a Special Report by the Delhi Lokayukta in the Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojana case, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has lost the moral right to continue in office. He said the Lokayukta's report has also brought the office of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister under the cloud.

Prof. Malhotra said false promises were made by the Chief Minister about 60,000 houses being ready under the scheme ahead of the last Assembly elections.

Averring that the Lokayukta had found that the Chief Minister had made false claims and recommended to the President that she censured in the matter, the senior BJP leader said the recommendations sent by the Home Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office in the matter were not correct.

Now, he said, the Lokayukta has categorically stated that the report sent to the President was not correct.  “The Lokayukta has declared the report to be incorrect and it was sent to the President to just save the Chief Minister,'' Prof. Malhotra claimed.

The BJP leader also castigated the Centre for resorting to double standards on the issue of strengthening the offices of the Lokayukta. “While the Central Government repeatedly asserts its intention to strengthen the Lokayukta, it throws the reports of Lokayukta given on different occasions against the Chief Minister and her Council of Ministers in the waste-paper basket.''
