Onion prices have doubled during the past fortnight because of lesser yields in producing States.

Selling at around Rs.20 per kg at the beginning of this month, onions are now available in the markets here between Rs.35 and 40 per kg.

“This time there has been a lesser yield in States, including Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The new crop which we were expecting from Alwar in Rajasthan has got hit due to heavy rain there earlier,” said a trader, adding that the prices would continue to rule high during the next couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, potatoes are also selling on the higher side at Rs.20 per kg as the new crop has arrived in the markets. “Potato prices should come down by the end of this month,” said a trader. - PTI
