NEW DELHI: Shivani Bhatnagar murder case prime accused R. K. Sharma was on Wednesday granted a one-day exemption from attending trial proceedings by the court here after he claimed to be suffering from a back-ache.

Additional Sessions Judge Rajender Kumar Shastri exempted Sharma from attending the court proceedings Thursday after he moved an application claiming severe back-ache.

The case, which is presently in the final arguments stage, will, however, continue in Sharma’s absence.

Sharma, a suspended senior Haryana-cadre IPS officer, was earlier allowed to visit his doctor at Mohali in police custody on September 3 for medical consultation relating to kidney and spinal problems he claimed to suffer from. The court had, however, dismissed Sharma’s application seeking an interim bail of three months for a medical check-up. – PTI.
