NEW DELHI: Notorious auto-thief Manoj Bakkarwala, who was arrested by the Delhi police Special Cell in Najafgarh here this Tuesday, was allegedly involved in over 500 cases of carjacking since he took to crime over a decade ago and lead a lavish life. Incidentally, this was the fifth time that Manoj has been arrested.

The Delhi police said on Wednesday that Manoj had rented apartments in Solan (Himachal Pradesh) and Mohali (Punjab). His Solan apartment was burgled a few months ago and the thieves had made off with Rs.10 lakh in cash and some electronic items. But as his landlord had reported the matter to the police, Manoj had stopped visiting the apartment for fear of being questioned by the police. Manoj was also allegedly involved with a girl, who is pursuing her MBA, and he had been bearing her educational expenses for the past several years. Thirty-four-year-old Manoj, a proclaimed bad character of the Nangloi police station, and his accomplice Praveen were arrested by a Special Cell team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravi Shankar when the two went to the native village of the former.
