The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police of Kaithal in Haryana seeking reports, within four weeks, on the allegation that many Dalits of a village Pabnama were forced to leave from their residences by the upper-caste people.

The Commission was acting suo motu , based on the media reports, which alleged that the Dalits were chased out by others as one of their boy had dared to marry an upper caste girl following a love affair.
