Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has scoffed at charges from leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the RSS that Sangh functionaries are being “framed” in the Ajmer dargah bomb blast case under pressure from 10 Janpath. “10 Janpath never interferes. The allegation has no base,” Mr. Gehlot asserted.
Mr. Gehlot's reaction came when media persons sought his response to the allegations from RSS and BJP leaders about “political interference” in Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) investigations into the Ajmer blast case in order to tarnish the image of the RSS. The 806-page charge-sheet filed by ATS has the names of RSS functionaries, including Indresh Kumar, mentioned in it.
“There is no interference from 10 Janpath. The allegation is baseless as it never does interfere. Take the case of visits of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka to Ranthambhore Park. No phone comes from there… in fact if Soniaji calls it would be to instruct that no special treatment should be accorded to them there. They should be treated like any other tourist who visits the Park,” Mr. Gehlot said.
The Chief Minister reiterated his earlier observation that his government had no role in the investigations into the bomb blast case in which three persons were killed at the mausoleum of the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in October 2007.
“The Congress has remained in power for long in Rajasthan. During Congress rule the Government never resorts to vindictive action and political vendetta,” he said.
Mr. Gehlot noted that the Sangh Parivar and the BJP resorted to a dharna on Wednesday to protest against so-called “political interference” in the investigations. “We don't interfere in police investigations and my view is that we should not. Let the police do their investigations independently. Whatever the truth, it will come out,” he observed.
Hitting back at the RSS, The Chief Minister said it was very much in the nature of the Sangh Parivar to indulge in such activities.
“Interfering in investigations, trapping innocent persons in false cases and helping the guilty in escaping the law are very much in the character of RSS and BJP. We don't do it in the Congress,” the Chief Minister said.
Mr. Gehlot said the matter was sub judice and one should not indulge in making statements.
