Bid to send a consignment of heroin through parcel to the Netherlands

NEW DELHI: A Nigerian national has been arrested by the Delhi Zonal Unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau on charges of trying to send a consignment of heroin through parcel to the Netherlands.

The Post and Telegraph Department recently intercepted a suspicious looking parcel from which a white powdery substance weighing one kg was recovered. The stuff turned out to be fine quality heroin. The NCB then took up the investigations but found the sender's address to be fictitious.

While efforts were on to trace the sender, the NCB was informed that someone had been enquiring about the parcel. The telephones from which the calls were made were traced to Chandigarh. Subsequently, a team was dispatched to track down the caller. A couple of days ago, he again called to enquire about the location of the parcel.

At the instance of the NCB officials, the suspect was asked to call up again after a while. When he came to make the call from the same public telephone booth, he was arrested. He was identified as Emanuel. During interrogation, he purportedly confessed to having sent the consignment of heroin. He told the interrogators that an Indian national had asked him to send the consignment to the Netherlands address.
