The National Museum, the country’s most prominent cultural landmark, got a new head on Saturday when a senior Union Culture Ministry official took over as its Director-General.

Culture Ministry Joint Secretary V. Venu will also function as Vice-Chancellor of the National Museum Institute, a prestigious deemed University offering rare courses in museology, conservation and art history.

A Kerala-cadre IAS officer, Dr. Venu is credited with combining culture and technology with the nature’s large repository to propel the State as one of the top tourist destinations in the world while he was Secretary of Tourism and Culture of the Kerala Government.

The National Museum houses over 200,000 works of art. — PTI
