NEW DELHI: Union Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T.R. Baalu on Friday opened the new 1.1-km-long flyover at Rajeev Chowk on the Gurgaon-Sohna road on National Highway-8. The flyover is part of the upcoming 27.7-km-long Delhi-Gurgaon Express Highway.

One section of the project from Palam to 42nd milestone on NH-8 is expected to be completed by December this year, while the other section from Rao Tula Ram Marg to Palam is likely to be opened by June 2007. Upon completion, the Express Highway may cut travel time between Delhi and Gurgaon to 20 minutes from one hour . On the 27.7 km project, the road has been widened to eight lanes for a distance of 22.33 km, while the remaining 5.37-km-long portion has been widened to six lanes. Besides nine flyovers that will provide signal-free movement of traffic on NH-8, the project also includes signal-free access to the domestic and international terminals of Indira Gandhi International AirportMr. Baalu asked the Ministry officials to coordinate with other agencies concerned to ensure that the project is completed speedily.
