Lieutenant-General M. A. Zaki, who retired as Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia in 2000, might return to the university again.

“The university court which met on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution accepting General Zaki as the Chancellor. However, it is not official yet since the decision has to be ratified,” said university sources.

The university has been without a Chancellor since the demise of Fakhruddin T. Khorakiwala some time in June last year.

The General had a remarkable record in the Army before bidding adieu to the military in 1995 and taking up the office of Vice-Chancellor in June 1997 and serving the university for three years before he retired on January 19, 2000.
