Leaders, party workers to court arrest
NEW DELHI: Led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convenor George Fernandes and Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh, workers belonging to various constituents of the NDA will demonstrate at Jantar Mantar here on Monday against the recent hike in fuel prices announced by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre.
Workers of various constituents of the NDA, including Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal (United) and Akali Dal, drawn from various States will take part in the protest. Senior NDA leaders and party workers will also court arrest against the UPA Government's failure to check increase in prices of all essential commodities that was putting an extra financial burden on common man.
Giving this information on Sunday, Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan said party workers and citizens of the Capital were being mobilised to take part in the demonstration. People in large numbers are expected to take part in the protest and court arrest, Dr. Vardhan added.
Since it came to power two years ago, the UPA Government has increased fuel prices several times making people, particularly those belonging to weaker sections of society, suffer, he said.
