The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday set up a committee to probe the suicide by a former airhostess allegedly due to harassment by Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda.

“The committee will visit the spot on Wednesday and look at the various aspects of the case. After the probe, the NCW will submit its report to the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development by the end of the week,’’ said NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma.

“Geetika Sharma was an employee of now defunct MDLR airline and as per media reports she allegedly committed suicide at her residence. We have got direction to look into the matter and have formed a committee on Monday to asses if any violation of rights has happened in this case. The Commission will also examine the involvement of Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda, who was the owner of the airline,’’ added Ms. Sharma.

The Commission is yet to decide whether it will probe the death of Fiza Mohammad (Anuradha Bali), the estranged wife of Haryana’s former Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan (Chand Mohammed). Fiza’s highly decomposed body was found at her residence on Monday.

“We haven’t received any details of the case so far and are yet to take any decision of a NCW probe into the case,’’ said Ms. Sharma.
