The National Cadet Corps has decided to raise 50 new battalions to accommodate 2 lakh new NCC cadets following government approval for a proposal to raise its strength from 13 lakh cadets to 15 lakh.

Addressing a press conference here, NCC Director-General Lt. Gen. R. K. Karwal said the process of absorbing the cadets would be completed in the next five years.

Gen. Karwal said NCC cadets were in heavy demand from the corporate sector who employ the cadets in security and other jobs. “Many Central departments and State governments have reservation in jobs for NCC cadets. NCC cadets get preference for various jobs because they are more disciplined and punctual,” he said.

The NCC chief said more opportunities were being given to cadets to participate in adventure and sports activities. The NCC is also exploring the possibility of youth exchange programme with other countries.
