Victim’s husband arrested
The mystery behind the death of a woman and her two-year-old son, whose bodies were found inside a locked room in Narela here this past month, has been unravelled with the arrest of the victim’s husband.
The accused, Santosh (28), suspected his wife of infidelity, the police said.
The highly decomposed bodies of Nisha and her son Vivek were found inside a single-room rented accommodation in Swatantra Nagar on November 27 after their neighbours informed the police about foul smell emanating from the room. A police team broke open the lock and found the bodies. Local investigation revealed that Nisha had come to live at the present address along with her husband Santosh and son Vivek a fortnight ago. Neighbours told the police that Santosh was jobless and Nisha worked in a jeans factory to earn a livelihood and the two would often quarrel. Santosh, who was absconding for five days before the murders came to light, emerged as a suspect.
Santosh, a native of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, first escaped to Ghaziabad following the murders to stay with one of his relatives Jai Chand. He then returned to Delhi and was staying with one Sanjay near Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar when the police arrested him.
“During interrogation, Santosh revealed that he married Nisha in Mumbai three years ago and later came to stay in Delhi. He suspected his wife of having an affair at her work place and would often follow her to the factory. Nisha took objection to it which led to frequent quarrels. An altercation again broke out between the couple on November 22 night following which Santosh allegedly strangulated her and their son and fled the spot. Nisha’s parents told us that Santosh would also harass her for dowry,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) B. S. Jaiswal.
Nisha was Santosh’s second wife. His first wife, Anita, had left him and was staying with her parents along with her two daughters.
