The accused had buried the victim’s body in his house to evade detection

NEW DELHI: A 41-year-old man has been arrested on charges of killing an elderly man at Khajuri Khas here earlier this month. The accused had buried the victim’s body in his house to evade detection.

The police received a complaint from Rajesh that his 75-year-old father Hari Ram had gone missing on April 14. He used to live alone in Sonia Vihar. Investigations revealed that Hari Ram was last seen with Mange Ram, whose house was found locked. He was traced to Karawal Nagar this past weekend.

During interrogation, Mange Ram allegedly confessed to having murdered Hari Ram. He told the police that he recently sold a house owned by Hari Ram with his consent, but had not been giving the sale proceeds to the victim. When Hari Ram started pestering him asking for the money, Mange Ram allegedly planned to eliminate him.

He called Hari Ram to his house on April 14 and offered him water laced with some poisonous substance.

Hari Ram died within two hours, following which the accused buried the body inside his house and fled.

The victim’s body has been exhumed.
