Shri Ram College of Commerce, which makes news every year for its sky-high cut-offs, is in the news again for inviting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to deliver its annual “Shri Ram Memorial Oration” here today (Wednesday). The lecture is part of the college’s management festival “Business Conclave” .Meanwhile, a protest is being planned by the Left-affiliated students’ organisation, the AII-India Students' Association, outside the college. “The protest will take place simultaneously with his address to students in SRCC. It is an open secret that Narendra Modi is living with the dream of becoming the Prime Minister of the country and to fuel these ambitions, his Public Relations managers are busy giving him an image makeover and they are doing this by using Delhi University,” said a statement from the AISA, adding that they were determined to “rebuff this game plan of Mr. Modi”. A similar protest is also being organised at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The Federation of Central Universities Teachers’ Associations (FEDCUTA) has also said that it disapproves of the whole affair and has appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to “prevent the college from implementing this obnoxious decision, as Mr. Modi’s address in a Delhi University college is bound to sully the secular fabric of the university”.
