Delhi Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia said the government will bear the medical expenses of the child domestic worker who was rescued on Monday from Vasant Kunj.

Dr. Walia, who called the situation “horrible and barbaric”, visited the victim at Safdarjung Hospital.

“She has marks on her body and doctors here will have to see whether these are dog bites or not. Apparently, she had knife injuries too. She is in a state of shock. Obviously something happened because she has a knife mark on the head,” Dr. Walia said.

Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. B.D. Athani said: “The victim has injury marks on the scalp and bruises on the face, back and leg. She was also investigated for hidden injuries. She is stable.”

Dr. Walia added that the case will be heard by a fast track court to ensure that the victim, who is from Jharkhand, gets justice fast.

“A case was registered against her employer Vandana Dheer at 12-30 a.m. She works with a private firm and was arrested on Tuesday. The victim had been working for her for the past one year and they used to beat her up almost every day,” said the Minister.
