Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, who is leading a Parliamentary delegation to Vietnam, called on the President of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Triet and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi and lauded the Vietnamese leadership on the commendable socio-economic progress achieved by that country over the past few years.

During the meeting with the Prime Minister, both the leaders agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of IT and capacity building.

The Speaker also offered to establish an additional English language training centre in Hanoi.

Both the leaders stressed the need to improve air connectivity by commencing direct flights between India and Vietnam which will boost business ties, promote tourism and encourage people-to-people contacts.
