A suspected stalker stabbed a medico, severely injuring her, at Gopalapatnam here on Wednesday.

The victim, who had completed her MBBS recently, got married eight months ago and is settled in Delhi. She came to the house of her mother-in-law at R.K. Beach on Monday.

On Wednesday afternoon, she boarded a bus at R.K. Beach and alighted at NAD Kotha Road junction to take an autorickshaw to her mother’s house at Purushottapuram near Pendurthy. The accused was said to have been following the victim all along and got into the auto and sat beside her.

“The accused was known to the woman for the past four years. He had been pestering her on the phone even after her marriage. At NAD junction, he wanted to talk to her over a cup of ice-cream and when she declined the offer, he boarded the auto,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (north) B. Prasada Rao said.

They reportedly had an argument even in the auto. As the auto was nearing Gopalapatnam arch, the accused whipped out a knife and stabbed her in the stomach. The auto driver stopped the vehicle but the culprit managed to escape.

The woman was admitted to a private hospital in the city where she was said to be out of danger. The Gopalapatnam police are investigating.
